It is also feared as the most challenging stage in the Round Italy Bicycle Race (Giro d’Italia). The Stelvio Bike Day taking place on 1st September involves overcoming a difference in altitude of 1,869 metres (6,132 ft) through 48 hairpin bends and, of course, the route will be closed to motor traffic. Everybody can join in and the starting point is Spondigna/Spondinig in the Val Venosta/Vinschgau holiday region.
